Uxbridge - Elton C. Jones, 92, of Westborough and formerly of Uxbridge, died
Wednesday May 18, 2011 in UMass Medical Center, Worcester. He was the
husband of the late Shirley (Pease) Jones who died in January 2011 and the
late Marjorie L. (Lizotte) Jones who died in 1983.
Mr. Jones was employed for the AMICA Mutual Insurance Co. in Providence as
an inspector for 31 years and as a consultant for another 15 years after his
retirement. Elton, during WWII, worked in the administrative offices of the
FBI in Washington, D.C.
He was born March 11, 1919 in Auburn son of the late Clarence P. and Ethel
(French) Jones. He was a graduate of St Mary's Catholic High School in
Milford, Class of 1937 the IBM School of Technology in Boston, MA and earned
his BCS degree from Southeastern University in Washington, DC in 1948. He
also attended classes at Clark University in Worcester.
Mr. Jones had served as the Uxbridge Town Moderator for over 40 years. He
also served the Town of Uxbridge as a member of the Board of Registrars,
Assessor, Executive Director of the Uxbridge Housing Authority and as
Chairman of the Town Study Committee. He was a board member of the Council
on Aging at the senior center and "Custodian of the Town Clock" for 25
years. He was past president of the Worcester County Republican Committee, a
licensed realtor, Chairman of 4-H Town Committee for 25 years (as well as an
honorary member), a member of the Uxbridge Elderly Connection, former
president of the Tri-Valley Elder Services Board and a member of the
Uxbridge Grange for over 71 years. Mr. Jones was a former Superintendent of
Sunday School at the Providence Universalist Church and the Uxbridge
Unitarian Church and Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of
Masons in Massachusetts. He was Past Master, Secretary and a 71 year member
of Solomon Temple Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Uxbridge and Past Patron of the Order
of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by two daughters; Debra J. D'Alessandro of Mendon and Cressa
L. Zajac of Port St. Lucie, FL, two step-sons; Roger and his wife Janet
Esten of CA and Randall and his wife Linda Esten of ME, a step-daughter
Judith Elliott of FL, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren
Funeral services will be held Sat. May 21, 2011 at 9 AM in the Mendon First
Parish (Unitarian), 13 Maple St., Mendon 01756.
Private graveside services will be in West Ridge Cemetery, Charlton, MA.
Visiting hours will be Friday May 20, 2011 from 6-8 PM in the BUMA FUNERAL
HOME, 101 North Main St., Uxbridge 01569. There will be a Masonic Service at
5:45 PM in the funeral home, prior to the visiting hours.
