3/16/11 - To All Officers of Guiding Lights Lodge:
Please make every effort to attend the officer rehearsals held Wednesday nights in Auburn from 7pm to approx 8pm. These are, of course, on nights we do not have Lodge or other activities. This is extremely important, especially at times when there is a degree coming up. These are also important in order to make sure that our floorwork and ritual are sharp and at their best. If you cannot make a rehearsal, please contact R.W. Anderson to let him know ( wayne.anderson@charter.net). On several occasions, a couple of dedicated brethren have shown up, only to find that there aren't even enough officers to conduct a proper rehearsal. Wayne will usually stick around just to be available to people who show up. These rehearsals are open to ALL brethren of GLL! I know everyone is busy But these rehearsals are critical to the success of our Lodge. |

Brethren,
I would like to thank those that assisted with the meal in February. All the help in preparation and cleanup was greatly appreciated.
Great job to our J.W. for putting on another fine program of preparedness! Please keep up the great work!
A special thank you to R.W. Lou Papagni who sat in as J.D. for the evening. Both Lou and a couple of visiting Brethren from Boylston Lodge were awarded GLL traveling Gavel. Five members of Boylston Lodge were present, so I will be planning a raid on Boylston Lodge with six or more members to retrieve it.
Brethren, you should be especially proud of your line officers. Many of the visitors approached me after the meeting to say, “Glad to see ritual is not dead”. We began this year with a promise that GLL would be open in Due Form at every communication. In doing so, your ritual has improved tenfold and I’m very proud of all of you.
Rehearsals will continue to be every Wednesday evening at 7pm. We will be going over the FC degree until this meeting and then begin work on the MM degree after the 9th. If you cannot make a rehearsal as a line officer, please call me (508-735-0807) or email (wayne.anderson@charter.net) by 5:00 PM the night of the rehearsal so we are not holding up the rehearsal to wait for a missing Bro.
This upcoming communication is a Fraternal visit of the DDGM and his suite. All members should make every effort to come out and support our District Deputy. We chose to also hold the FC degree as it is the shortest of the three degrees and on a single candidate, so will go quickly.
Sincerely and fraternally,
R.W. Wayne E. Anderson |

Brethren,
I’ve gone through the communication from cover to cover trying to update and clean it up. If you find errors or omissions, PLEASE send me an email with changes (wayne.anderson@charter.net). If you are not receiving regular email from me and wish to be ‘in the loop’, please send an email to me at the above address requesting same.
Thank you to the Rainbow and DeMolay that came out to help serve, run the cheese and cracker station, park, and attend the coat room at the G.M.’s reception. He was well pleased with the behavior and service provided by all! Well done! Additionally, a congratulations to the officers of GLL for their performance in opening the lodge in due form in front of many additional brethren in attendance.
My last note for this communication is regarding rehearsals. GLL is in the midst of multiple degrees. To ensure that the candidates receive the best possible work, we will be holding practices every Wed. Please make every effort to come out. We are currently practicing for the second degree (the shortest of the three) to be held at our regular communication in March. If you cannot attend, please give me a call at 508-735-0807. Practice nights will encompass floor work, ritual, and I will stay each night until a Bro. is satisfied with his knowledge of the degree. Please feel free to bring up other questions you may have at that time related to any of the three degrees.
Be safe, and I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
Sincerely and fraternally,
R.W. Wayne E. Anderson

Brethren,
I’ve just returned from Grand Lodge after watching our Brother Richard J. Stewart be installed as the 87th Grand Master of our Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts. Even with the weather – as bad as it was – the Grand Lodge room was filled! Had there been nice weather, without a doubt, it would have been standing room only! A heartfelt congratulations, M.W. Bro. Stewart!
Brothers, this month is a busy one! Every Wednesday there will be a rehearsal for the upcoming E.A. degree (1/26). Officers, every effort must be made to attend the practices. We want to put on the best possible degrees for our new candidates. Thank you to those who have been attending already!
We have another affiliation this month! FANTASTIC! I look forward to the vote at our regular communication (1/12). I would like to congratulate the Lodge for voting for the reinstatement of Bro. James Acker Cummings. He was very proud and happy to become active once again in his mother Lodge. When the date for the 3rd degree for his son is finalized, I hope as many Brothers of GLL as possible can attend his son’s raising! I think it would be a great show of support not only for our Brother, but for his son and a Lodge of the 24th District, Mumford River Lodge.
The tickets for the Grand Master’s reception (1/15 @ 3pm) are being printed. Although the reception itself is free, dinner will be $30. Tickets will go QUICKLY! If you want a ticket, please contact me immediately! I know this is late notice, but it’s just the way the chips fell this time around. Seating is limited – but I would like to see a nice contingent of GLL present for our Bro and G.M. Guiding Lights will open the Lodge at One Ionic Ave, Worcester at 3pm – Officers should be onsite and ready for a final practice at 2pm. Final preparations for the reception will be discussed at our regular communication. Wor. Henry Rand is the head of the committee and I’m sure any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope all of our Brethren had a wonderful Christmas/Kwanzaa/Hanukkah and wish you a happy and prosperous new year.
Sincerely and fraternally,
R.W. Wayne E. Anderson

Brethren, another month has passed and now we’re looking down the throat of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and others. Many of us are not familiar with why other religions celebrate the season - so I did some cursory research…
Christmas or Christmas Day is a holiday observed generally on December 25 to commemorate the birth of Jesus, the central figure of Christianity. The date is not known to be the actual birthday of Jesus, and may have initially been chosen to correspond with either the day exactly nine months after some early Christians believed Jesus had been conceived, the date of the winter solstice on the ancient Roman calendar, or one of various ancient winter festivals. Christmas is central to the Christmas and holiday season, and in Christianity marks the beginning of the larger season of Christmastide, which lasts twelve days. The word Christmas originated as a compound meaning "Christ's Mass". It is derived from the Middle English Christemasse and Old English Cristes mæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038. "Cristes" is from Greek Christos and "mæsse" is from Latin missa (the holy mass). In Greek, the letter Χ (chi), is the first letter of Christ, and it, or the similar Roman letter X, has been used as an abbreviation for Christ since the mid-16th century. Hence, Xmas is sometimes used as an abbreviation for Christmas.
Hanukkah: Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday celebrated for eight days and nights. It starts on the 25th of the Jewish month of Kislev, which coincides with late November-late December on the secular calendar. In Hebrew, the word “Hanukkah” means “dedication.” The name reminds us that this holiday commemorates the re-dedication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem following the Jewish victory over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 B.C.E. ~About.com 11/25/2010
Kwanzaa: Kwanzaa is a celebration that has its roots in the black nationalist movement of the 1960s, and was established as a means to help African Americans reconnect with their African cultural and historical heritage. A Celebration of Family, Community, and Culture, "Kwanzaa was not created to give people an alternative to their own religion or religious holiday.
~Wikipedia.org 11/25/2010
This season of community, giving and rededication should remind us of our friends and family. Those that we hold close and dear to our hearts.
Let us as Masons look deep. Remember what this ‘season of giving’ is truly about. Not the gift giving, but more of love and friendship. There are many charitable acts we can perform without the mighty buck. However, when digging deep in the pockets, remember to give back to the community and celebrate your prosperity.
Please make every effort to attend the December communication as we will be voting on two prospective candidates as well as expenditure of funds.
Additionally, Unless it conflicts with a holiday or important ‘Masonic’ day (such as a visit of the DDGM to a district Lodge), please note that we will hold practice at the Auburn Masonic Building each 2 Wednesday’s following a regular communication at 7pm. We have degree work coming up as well as a very important day for the next incoming Grand Master. If you are an officer of the Lodge, please study your parts for a full ‘due-form’ opening.
My sincere hope for you all to have a happy, healthy and safe holiday season.
Sincerely and fraternally,
R.W. Wayne E. Anderson Master, Guiding Lights Lodge |

Brethren,
I'd like to begin by thanking everyone who came out to assist with the DDGM Official visit to Guiding Lights Lodge. Most especially my extremely supportive wife Shirley and R.W. Andrew G. Robinson who were instrumental in procuring, and cooking the meal for the evening. Additionally, Shirley stayed to clean after the rest of us went up to the Lodge room. I'd also like to thank the stewards who prepped the collation.
During the evening, most of the remaining officers have been installed and we are ready to get down to the business of Masonry. I will be working with the secretary to complete the investigations that are in the queue so we will be able to vote at the stated communication. We will also be working with Wor. Mark Maass of Joel H. Prouty Lodge who is the schedule holder for the Lodge building to ensure we have a few Wednesdays available each month for study of degrees, floor-work, and fellowship.
I'm getting mixed responses for going for the Grand Master's Award. If we don't get full sign on, by all the officers - we may not go for it. I will send an email out soon to meet with the officers to get final input.
I hope all your children enjoyed Halloween and wish a sincere happy Veterans Day to all of our members and their families that are or have served in our military.
God Bless you all.
Sincerely and fraternally, R.W. Wayne E. Anderson Master, Guiding Lights Lodge |
